MeTube is a self-hosted web front end for yt-dlp. Getting a video into it meant copying a link, opening another tab and pasting it. MeTube Sender puts it one right-click away — and, the other way round, brings what MeTube downloaded back onto the YouTube page.
Sending
- Right-click a link, a page, a text selection or the player: one MeTube entry with three blocks — video qualities, audio formats and subtitle files — laid out flat, as submenus, or as one-click defaults with the rest under More…. The settings page draws the resulting menu live.
- The popup lists every YouTube video, short and playlist linked from the current page, embedded players included; tick some, or send the page.
- Clean links: YouTube URLs are cut down to
v,listandt, so tracking parameters never reach MeTube; links from other sites go through unchanged, since MeTube takes anything yt-dlp does.
Watching
On a video page, Alt+Shift+M opens an overlay that looks the video up in MeTube's history: already downloaded, it plays from where YouTube was; queued, it shows the progress and starts when the file lands; missing, it adds it. Once watched, it offers to delete the file from the server — nothing goes without a click.
A <video> element cannot send an Authorization header, so a declarativeNetRequest rule adds the basic-auth credentials — only to media GETs started by the extension's own player, only towards your MeTube. YouTube, or any other page, never sees them.
Plain JavaScript, HTML and CSS with no build step, in English and French; its one library, Media Chrome for the player, is vendored because Manifest V3 forbids loading code from the network.
