Dominant colors block switch

A photo cut into a grid where every cell keeps flickering between its image crop and a flat swatch of that crop's dominant colour.

2dnoise

The frame is a lattice of tiles, each holding its own crop of a photograph, and tile by tile the picture trades places with solid colour blocks — the image keeps dissolving into a mosaic of paint chips and reassembling. Because several photos share the loop, what reassembles is not always the picture that dissolved.

At load every source photo is sliced per tile and the dominant colour of each slice is measured once and cached, so a flip costs a lookup, not an analysis. Which state a tile shows is decided by a noise field plus a diagonal position term, which is why the flips travel across the frame in waves instead of firing at random.
