# Torsade v1 — Unmelted Two flat-coloured strands wind around each other down the canvas, the twist rippling along their length as a rainbow gradient slides through them. Source: https://steevepommier.com/motion/torsade-v1-unmelted/ Section: Motion Published: 2026-07-07 Tags: 2d, iridescent --- Two ropes of solid colour twist around one another down the middle of the frame, a rainbow gradient sliding along their length. The winding is not uniform: a wave of twist travels through the pair, so one stretch coils tightly while another relaxes, and the crossings migrate. At every step down an invisible vertical line the sketch stamps two flat discs at equal and opposite offsets, so the strands are exact mirror twins and their over-under crossings are pure paint order. The winding rate at each step is a sine of time and position, which is what sends the twist travelling. The discs carry no shading at all — the flat, hard-edged overlap is the point, and the melted, shaded remake of this exact recipe exists as a later sibling.
