# Photo — Switch letter mask A single letterform punched out of the page, photographs streaming through it while the glyph melts from one character into the next. Source: https://steevepommier.com/motion/photo-switch-letter-mask/ Section: Motion Published: 2026-07-07 Tags: 2d, typography --- A giant character fills the frame as a window: inside its strokes the current photograph shows, outside is flat paper. Both layers change on their own clocks — the photos hard-cut through the set at their own rhythm while the letter continuously reshapes, one glyph's outline flowing into the next through in-between forms that belong to neither. The glyph is never rendered as type. Its outline is sampled into a cloud of points, and morphing means easing every point toward its counterpart in the next character's cloud; drawn fat into a mask buffer, the dots fuse back into a solid letter. A single word split into characters, a list of strings, or the digits zero to nine by default supply the sequence.
